Sarahan
Sarahan is at an elevation of 2313 metres from sea level. It is a small picturesque village 43 kilometres from Rampur. Rampur is 42 kilometres from Kotgarh. It is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Himachal Pradesh. Sarahan has a breathtaking view of the snow clad Shrikhand Range. It is also famous for Bhima kali Temple, dedicated to Mother Bhima Kali, presiding deity of the rulers of the former Bushar State. There are also temples of Lord Raghunath Ji, Lord Narsingh Ji, and Patal Bharava Ji (Lankara Veer Ji). Lankara Veer Ji is considered to be the guardian of Mother Bhima kali. There is a Bird Sanctuary near Saharan, which has all the exotic bird varieties like the Monal and Jhujurana. There is a summer palace of the Bushar rulers here. There are many small treks in the forests near Sarahan.
Sungri
Sungri is at an elevation of 2086 metres from sea level. It is 60 kilometres from Kotgarh. Sungri is a beautiful village surrounded by forests of deodar, Pine and Oak. There is a famous trek from here to the Mural Top, which goes through green meadows and thick forests. The view from Mural Top is breathtaking. You can view the entire snow clad Baspa Range from here. This destination is a favourite with adventure seekers throughout the world.
Bashleo Pass
Bashleo pass is at an elevation of 3275 metres from sea level. The region thrives in natural beauty. Bashleo pass is a trekking trail from the village of Bagha Sarahan, which is 10 kilometres from Bagipul. Bagipul is a small hamlet located in the V shaped Kurpan Valley 70 kilometres from Kotgarh. Bagipul is famous for Trout fishing. You can view the Shrikhand Mahadev peak from the top. The other side of the pass is the Banjar Valley. The region has very less tourism and the area is sparsely populated. The local economy thrives on traditional livelyhoods.
Jalori Pass
Jalori Pass (Jalori Jyot) is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 10,800 ft (3.120m) above the sea level, situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. It connects the Satjuj Valley with the Thirhan valley of Banjar. Here is a Mahakali temple known as Jalori Mata, visited by thousands of devotees from the nearby villages. The place is famous for its long meadows and a pristine lake called Sewolsar. Sewolsar Lake is one and half hours walk from the Jalori pass. The trail goes through a forest of oak and Moru. You can feel the sounds of the leaves crushing below your feet as you hike up to the Lake. There is another route you can take toward the lake which follows the ridge line on the top of the mountain. Jalori pass is a perfect destination for spending your day in the wilderness.
Kinnaur
Kinnaur, located in the north-eastern corner of Himachal Pradesh is about 235 km from Shimla (and approximately 170km from Deodar cottage). Comprising of three high mountains ranges – the Zanskar, Greater Himalayas and Dhauladhar, the tribal district Kinnaur is well fed by the River Sutlej, River Spiti and the River Baspa along with their small and big tributaries. The strikingly beautiful valleys of Kinnaur are covered with thick forests, orchards, vineyards, village settlements and terrace farms. Most notable places to visit in Kinnaur include, Sangla, Chitkul, RekongPeo, Kalpa and Nako.
Spiti
Popular as a desert mountain valley, Spiti Valley lies in the north-eastern region of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Possessing a distinctive Buddhist culture, very similar to that of Tibet and Ladakh region of India, Spiti is popular for Buddhist monasteries such as Key monastery, Dhankar Monastery, Tabo Monastery and Gue Monastery (which has a 500-year-old mummified monk, Sangha Tenzin, who is believed to have given up his life while meditating). Daranghati
One of the passes on the ancient Indo-Tibet silk route, Daranghati (Daran Pass) is one of the most beautiful passes in the region. Offering a spectacular view of the renowned Paap and Punya Mountains, the pass has Kashapat village in the vicinity. The place is famous for Shari Koti mata temple which is an easy one hour hike from the pass. An ideally located forest rest house here is famed by legendary novelist Ruskin Bond, who has stayed here to find solitude for his writings.
