St. Mary’s Church

Built in 1872, the St. Mary’s Church stands out as an example of Gothic architecture. The Church is located in the middle of the Kotgarh village and has magnificent view which enhances the setting of what is one of the historic buildings of early missionary works. Alongside the Church a school Gorten Mission operates. The school is named after Gorten – a distinguished civil servant in Shimla during the British Raj.

Tani Jubbar Lake

9 Kilometres from the cottage lies this beautiful lake. The Lake is surrounded by high cedar and dense forest, making an amazing landscape. The snow covered Himalayan ranges can be viewed from here. The Lake is home for different kinds of birds. A temple dedicated to Nag Devta is in the vicinity of the lake.

Hatu Peak

Hatu peak is a long undulating mountain top at an elevation of 3,300 metres. It is the highest you can go in Shimla District. This place is popular among adventure seekers and bikers as you get a 360 degree of the valley bellow. The area has a forest of Pine, Spruce, Fir and Oak. There are many meadows on the top locally known as thach. One can view snow clad ranges as far as the Pir Panjals, Dhauladhars and trans Himalayan range towards the north. You can view the Hanuman Tibba, Friendship peak, Kinner Kailash and the Shrikhand Mahadev peaks from here. Vast landscapes dotted with apple plantations are visible from here. There is also a beautiful trekking trail 6 kilometres to the top of the mountain. The trail goes though a dense forest. Hatu also has a very beautiful temple dedicated to Hatu Mata. On the first Sunday of Jyest month (June) of hindu calendar, people come in great number to pay their tributes to the deity. Just near the temple there are big stones that make a formation of a cooking stove or challah, which is believed to be used by the Pandavas during their stay in the forest.

Narkanda

Narkanda is the highest inhabited pass in Himachal at an elevation of 2621 metres. It is from here the road bifurcates from the National Highway towards Kotgarh. Narkanda has one of the best powder snows for skiing in the world. It has become a popular ski and boarding destination now. Narkanda is surrounded by green deodar forests with spectacular views of the snow clad mountains throughout the year. Narkanda is the gateway to the apple country side (Kotgarh) of Himachal Pradesh. The stunning views around Narkanda, combined with thick forests, make it an ideal place for long leisurely walks.
